A Behavioral Health Tech spends more time with your patients than doctors or other treatment team members. BHTS help carry out the treatment plans put in place by the care team, and report on a patient’s condition. A BHT is a positive role model and motivating force. The patients rely on you for help with therapeutic activities, educations about the treatment process, and taking vitals and helping with ADL (activities of daily living).
BHTs are being used in more and more settings from Skilled Nursing Facilities, Residential Detox facilities, inpatient hospital locations, and outpatient health care settings.

some basic skills needed in a BHT
A BHT is on the ground watching and assessing the patients behavior, activities, and basic physical needs.
A BHT is more than just someone who does 15 minute rounds. A BHT takes vitals, helps with ADL (actives of daily living) and alerts the nursing staff to any and all changes with the patients.
Often the BHT is the first person a patient seeks out when they have questions, concerns, or "don't feel that great". A BHT is a confidant and listener and knows when to seek the advice and care of nursing or counseling staff to assist the patient in their journey.
AHEC empowers individuals to expand their reach in healthcare.
